Mary Auerbach

I best like Chuck Close's portraits that use grids of tiny abstract "paintings."  The closer you look and the more out of context each square of the grid becomes, the less the painting looks like a face.  That is true of many things in life, I think; the closer and more intense your focus, the stranger and less familiar things seem.
