I like many of the artists and had a hard time deciding which style to experiment with. Expressionism appeals to me because it involves representing one's inner reality rather than objects in the "outside" world. I chose Emil Nolde as my inspiration artist because his work is very different from styles I have studied in the past, and I love his intense and poetic use of color. Here is a very good website describing his life and many details of his artistic approach.

I like the painting of Berthe Morisot, and I don't believe I've heard this name before. I applaud the impressionists because they were the first artists who broke the rules of the French Academy, and adopted a new style of painting that allowed them to paint loosely and quickly to capture a particular moment, mood, and character. I like her paintings because they are not boring; they show interesting moments or a little story. I also enjoy her loose brush strokes; through this we can still recognize the images. It's hard to tell which paintings I like the most, but here are some websites with paintings that caught my attention.

I like Dominique Ingres' work above the rest in the handout. His work is very detailed and you know exactly how the textures should feel just by looking at his pictures.
