Watercolor Studio 10.6 / Assignment for 10.11

IN CLASS


Explore the following Dry Brush Techniques on one sheet of watercolor paper:


*Stipple
*Hatch
*Cross Hatch
*Contour
*Cross Contour
*Invented Texture / observe detail from Charles Burchfield handout


Considerations:
Eliminate as much accidental white of the paper as possible
Overlap ALL techniques using every color and every brush, sponges, etc in your collection
Explore various ways to hold brushes and experiment with the amount of water in your brush as you try each technique


HOMEWORK


Create a study of the Charles Burchfield painting you have been assigned or a painting inspired by his work of the rocks and nature of Belle Island in Richmond, VA.


Review the color used in the painting online or in a color print made on campus.
Fill page, consider the edges, positive negative space, color and dry brush technique used in the work you are studying.


Your Burchfield study is due at the beginning of class on Monday.
