Critique Homage Watercolors: tell us the name of your artist and reveal lessons learned from studying their techniques

Create 8 thumbnail sketches, postcard size, of your botanical subject (approximately 4 x 6 inches each)

Continue process by creating 4 tonal studies, of the best thumbnails. Focus on three dimensional quality, composition and form. Use dark tones such as umber, gray/black, blues and violets.

For Homework:
Review the Videos Above.

Select best of 4 completed tonal studies and enlarge this composition to a full sheet of paper using light graphite to complete your drawing. Be sure to know the name of your flower or plant. Examine how other painters have interpreted your plant form.

Prepare your paper before class - tone the background after you have completed the drawing. We will begin our color studies at the beginning of class on Thursday. Bring examples of other botanical studies of your plants.
